Van Boening is leading the American billiard players going into the final 32 at the World 10-Ball Championships in Manila, Philippines.
The World 10-Ball Championships, held in Manila this week, have winnowed down to 32 after beginning their single-elimination round of 64 Thursday.
At the top of the chart, Shane Van Boening leads with a recent 9-3 victory over Predator 10-Ball champion Tony Drago. His next opponent will be fellow countryman Shaun Wilkie in a rematch of the 2008 Diamond Open 9-Ball Professional Players Championship finals. Wilkie just defeated Japan’s Naoyuki Oi 9-7.
Ralf Souquet seems to have rebounded from his stint in the hospital, coming back to best the U.K.’s Imran Majid 9-5. Souquet’s next challenge will come from Hungary’s Vilmos Foldes, who has bested Carlos Cabello 9-6.
Yang Ching-Shun has defeated fellow Chinese Taipei player Hung-Ming Chu 9-4 to advance to play Leonardo Didal of the Philippines. Didal’s previous match saw him defeat Zhang Shuchun of China 9-5.

Canada’s Tyler Edey is still alive, having eliminated one of the two women who made it to the final round of 64, Shin-Mei Liu, 9-3. The other woman, Jasmin Ouschan of Austria, ended up going hill-hill with Demosthenes Pupul of the Philippines before Pupul won 9-8.
An all-Japan match is coming up in the next round, with Satoshi Kawabata and Hayato Hijikata facing off. Kawabata defeated Germany’s Sascha Tege 9-5 earlier, with Hijikata besting Roman Hybler of the Czech Republic 9-7.
Audience members will also be treated to an all-Filipino match-up in the next round, as “Marvelous” Marlon Manalo and Victor Arpilleda square off. Manalo just defeated Italy’s Fabio Petroni 9-5, while Arpilleda ousted Wang Ming 9-4.
Recent world straight pool champion Niels Feijen made it through the last round, winning 9-4 over Ricky Yang of Indonesia. He will next face David Alcaide of Spain, who just bested Austrian Martin Kempter 9-4.
Mark Gray of the U.K., having dispatched American Corey Deuel 9-6, will now match up with reigning world 9-ball champion Daryl Peach. Peach has just defeated Arnel Bautista 9-4.
