Vidal Takes Joss Tour Season Opener

Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / Waterville, ME
by Rick Davis
Starting the season off with a bang, Marc Vidal took the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour by storm where he streaked through the billiard tour season opener to go undefeated. Taking place at TJ’s Classic Billiards in Waterville, ME, a small but strong field emerged for the two days of double-elimination 9-ball action.
Late on the winners’ side Vidal met Mike Dechaine and defeated him 9-7 to earn his spot on the hot seat throne. Over on the one-loss side Larry McKenna ousted Tim Perry 9-7, while Chuck Altomare gained momentum in his hopeful comeback. Altomare, who took an early loss from Vidal in day one, tore through the remainder of the chart, eliminating tournament director Mike Zuglan 9-7, Ray McNamara 9-5, and then McKenna 9-7 in the quarterfinals. Cleaning up the chart, Altomare knocked out Dechaine 9-7 in the semifinals to earn a final crack at Vidal.
What was expected to be a tough match-up turned out to be a steamroller as Vidal swept past Altomare, this time drilling him 9-3 in a short half-hour beating. Vidal, a tour regular, walked away with a solid win and a great start to the season.
