Seminole Pro Tour / Cape Coral, FL

InsidePOOL’s 2007 Player of the Year, Shane Van Boening looks to be the top dog at the Seminole Pro Tour stop this weekend in at Diamond Billiards in Cape Coral, FL. With only five games totaled in the loss column, “The South Dakota Kid” seems to be making everything look flawless. His victims include Louis Smith 7-2, James Roberts 7-1, and Neil Fujiwara 8-2. Now in the final four on the winners’ side, Van Boening is set to play Larry “The Truth” Nevel first thing Sunday.

The other winners’ side pairing finds Josh Lewis as an underdog against world champion Mika “Iceman” Immonen. Immonen, who survived an 8-6 match against Tony “The Sniper” Crosby, will undoubtedly bring his top form Sunday.

Corey Deuel, who won the last two Seminole Pro Tour events, has been eliminated in heartbreaking fashion. On the hill against Charlie Williams and leading 6-2, Deuel made the case 10 ball and scratched two rails into the corner. From there he witnessed his lead disappear. His near stranglehold turned into nothingness as Williams mounted a comeback and eventually took the match with a hill-hill win.

The one-loss side is an endeavor that every player wants to avoid. Present on the B-side is world champion Johnny Archer, Williams, Steve Moore, and Mike Davis. Another west side story that has shaped up is Yu Ram Cha. After winning her first two matches on the winners’ side, Cha was sent left by Crosby 7-3. There she fought her way through to Sunday, ousting first Anthony Meglino 7-2 and then surviving a hill-hill thriller against Jerry Calderon in the last match of the evening. Cha will next face off against Moore in Sunday’s first round.

Special thanks again to room owners James Oswalt and Ward for hosting this event.
