Pendley Racks Up Another Billiards Tour Victory

Another GSBT Victory for Pendley
Great Southern Billiard Tour / Goldsboro, NC

by Lea Andrews

After A-ranked Adam Pendley took down a strong Great Southern Billiard Tour field in October, tournament director Shannon “The Cannon” Daulton upped him to AA, and following a weekend of undefeated play December 12-13, he notched his first win with the tour’s highest ranking. Pendley was among the field of 33 that arrived at Fast Eddie’s Sports Bar and Grill in Goldsboro, NC, for the $1,500-added A/B amateur event.

An 11-4 win over 15-year-old Jackson “Smoky” Jeffreys put Pendley in the hot seat match against recent winner Sam Monday, who’d gotten his own 11-4 win over Mike Frowein. Managing to hold Monday to 9 games, Pendley claimed the hot seat, sending Monday west.

On the left side of the bracket, Sparky Ferrell got by A-ranked Cary Dunn 11-7 to face TJ Moore, who’d held A-ranked Brad Shearer to 7 games. Meanwhile, Larry Faulk eased by B-ranked David Strum 9-3 to meet up with Younger Chapman, who’d breezed past B-ranked JR Poste 9-4. Ferrell and Faulk moved past Moore and Chapman 11-4 and 9-7, respectively, to find themselves locking up with Frowein and Jeffreys. Against Ferrell, Frowein managed to reach his hill of six games but couldn’t get over it, landing in fifth 11-6, and Jeffreys found himself in the same predicament against Faulk, who advanced to the quarterfinals 9-6. There, Faulk was able to keep Ferrell away from his goal of 11 games, and he moved on 9-9 to face Monday in the semifinals. Monday’s mind was already made up, though, and he put Faulk in third 11-6 to earn his rematch with Pendley in the finals.

In the true double-elimination final match, both Pendley and Monday were looking for their second GSBT win this season, but Pendley, who’d proved himself in more than a few high-pressure hill-hill situations over the weekend, was ready for the tension of the finals, and he was able to take advantage of whatever rare Monday error came his way to decisively clinch his victory 11-7.
