Ouschan Defeats Engert at World 10-Ball Chmapionships in Manila, Philippines

Jasmin Ouschan continued her assault on the field at the World 10-Ball Championships in Manila, Philippines with her demolition of Thomas Engert to reach the final 64. Several top names made their exit while others have stepped into the spotlight. 

The internationally televised match was knotted at 4-4, when Engert missed a half table length combo on the 1-9. It was all downhill from there. At 5-4, Jasmin faced a long difficult bank shot on the 5 ball. Oucschan fired it in and then made a tough jacke-up 6 ball before completing the rack. Jasmin played flawlessly the last three racks, running out each one in impressive fashion. The final score was 9-4.

Thorsten Hohmann was eliminated 9-7 by the 19 year old Filipino Benares, who is playing in his first World Championship. He joins “Poo Poo” Putul, Jeff De Luna and Marlon Manolo leading the Filipino charge. Americans Shaun Wilkie, Corey Deuel, Stevie Moore, Charlie Williams and Shane Van Boening have given the USA its best chance in many years for a World Title. Johnny Archer was sent packing by China’s Haitao with a humiliating 9-1 final score. Other favorites sidelined include Antonio Gabica, Raj Hundal, Pe-Wei Chang, Gabe Owen, Konstantin Stepanov and Po-Cheng Kuo.
 
Ralf Souquet gutted out the victory he needed to move on, but was rushed to the hospital afterwards, suffering from severe abdominal pain. It is not known if he will be able to continue tomorrow. We will have more details on his condition as they become available.
