Single-Game Final Falls to Moore
J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour / Charlotte, NC
by Skip Maloney
Steve “The Knife” Moore came back from a hill-hill hot seat match defeat to take a single-game final against him at the J. Pechauer Southeast 9-Ball Tour’s May 3 stop. The $1,000-added event drew a field of only nine entrants to Paradise Billiards in Charlotte, NC.
After an opening round that elicited a winners’ side final four, Moore initially met up with Mike Davis as Park squared off against Dugsy Norris. All three matches that left Park in the hot seat were hill-hill affairs, with Moore over Davis, Park over Norris, and ultimately Park over Moore.
On the one-loss side, Katie Cowan and Jeff Abernathy were there to meet Davis and Norris. Davis got by Cowan 9-2, as Abernathy bested Norris 9-5. Davis then dropped Abernathy into fourth place and had a shot at Moore in the semifinals. Moore advanced back to the finals with a 9-7 win over Davis.
Moore and Park decided to bypass the scheduled race to 11 and make it a single-game contest for top prize, which didn’t work well for Park. Moore broke the rack, ran the balls, and took home the first-place prize.
