The Mezz Classic 10-Ball Invitational is well underway at Corner Pocket Billiards in Orlando, FL. Held concurrently with the Mezz Classic Straight Pool Invitational event, which was won by Johnny Archer over Mika Immonen the day prior, the 10-ball division attracted 48 players, 16 of whom were seeded in the brackets.

Event promoter Charlie Williams is leading the top half of the bracket so far, having the good luck of a first-round bye followed by an 8-3 victory over Derek Schwager in the second. Other familiar names are still undefeated after the second round as well after notching some top-heavy wins. “Rocket” Rodney Morris rousted Wayne Catledge 8-1, Steve Moore dealt Josh Newman a donut, Manny Chau whitewashed Neil Fujiwara, and Shane Van Boening bested Zaid Thwied 8-2.

Ohio players Corey Deuel and Shawn “Big Bubba” Putnam will face off in the third round; Deuel defeated Jim Phillips 8-3 in the second round, while Putnam bested James Roberts by the same score. Dark horse Dan Dennis upset Jonathan “Hennessee” Pinegar with a strong 8-3 score and will next have to play Immonen, who just defeated Mark Ritter 8-3. Other featured winners’ side match-ups are Archer versus Nick Tafoya, Chau versus Van Boening, and Moore versus Davis.
