McDermott Tour Results from Big Dog Billiards
The second stop of the 2007/2008 McDermott All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) was hosted at Big Dog Billiards in Des Moines, IA, on Saturday, September 29. The $1,000 added event drew ninety-one players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes. Shane Van Boening (Sioux City, IA) ran undefeated to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Van Boening (rated a “7” on a regional handicap system used) slipped by Mike Bennett [6] (Des Moines, IA) 7-3.
Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Van Boening outplayed Jamie Fenton [6] (Des Moines, IA) on the hill 7-5, while Bennett knocked off Shannon Rasmussen [6] (Cedar Rapids, IA). In the B-side quarterfinals Fenton eliminated Ryan Cobb [6] (Lincoln, NE), while Rasmussen ousted Randy Hanson (Frazee, MN) [6] 6-3; Rasmussen took out Fenton 6-2 in the semifinals; and in the B-side finals Rasmussen continued his hot hand by topping Mike Bennett 6-5. Shane Van Boening took control early in the tourney finals and never looked back to eclipse Shannon Rasmussen by a 7-2 margin for the title!
By virtue of Ryan Cobb being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free 8-ball singles entry into the 2008 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS. The ACS wishes to thank sponsors McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Championship Billiard Fabric and Nick Varner Signature Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the McDermott All American Tour. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the 2007/2008 All American Tour by contacting the ACS.
The Tour starts heating up on Saturday, October 13 when two events will be showcased – a $1,000 added 8-ball event at Greenfields Pool Sports Bar in Lakewood, CO (contact Todd Grosvenor at 303-989-9820) and a $500 added 8-ball event at Miller Time Billiards in Davenport, IA.
