Ladies Get One Step Closer at GenerationPool.com Championships
by InsidePOOL Staff
After Monday’s rounds at the GenerationPool.com 9-Ball Championships, held this week at the Charlotte Convention Center, the Women’s Professional Billiard Association’s (WPBA’s) ladies moved one step closer to determining a champion. Leading the pack are still the top four from the San Diego Classic last April—Allison Fisher, Gerda Hofstatter, Karen Corr, and Ga-Young Kim.
It was a fairly smooth ride for the final four, with Xiaoting Pan putting up the toughest fight in her match against Kim, which Kim won 9-6. Anna Kostanian fell to Corr 9-5. Kelly Fisher was sent west with a 9-4 defeat at the hands of Hofstatter, and Fisher cruised with a commanding 9-1 victory over Helena Thornfeldt.
On the one-loss side, Melissa Herndon continued her climb back with a 9-6 victory over Vivian Villareal. Austrian champ Jasmin Ouschan battled Iris Ranola to hill-hill before advancing to the final eight in the left bracket. Shin-Mei Liu ousted Joanne Ashton 9-6, as Jeanette Lee was doing the same to Dawn Hopkins in a 9-4 winning effort.
After Tuesday’s rounds, there will be a redraw, with the final four in the one-loss side matching up with one of the four remaining in the winners’ bracket.
