Gomez Takes Pechauer Billiards Tour at Greenfields
The twenty-fifth billiards stop of the 2007/2008 Pechauer All American Tour, produced by the American CueSports Alliance (ACS), was hosted at Greenfields Pool Sports Bar in Lakewood, CO, on Saturday, January 12. The $1,000 added event drew fifty-seven players in a double-elimination 9-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes. Rick Field (Denver, CO) ran undefeated to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Field outpointed Dave Gomez (Aurora, CO) 7-4.
Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Field defeated Nick Smith (Colorado Springs, CO) 7-4, while Gomez topped off Nate Smith (Colorado Springs, CO) 7-4. The A-bracket quarterfinals included: Gomez edging Mike Barry (Colorado Springs, CO) 7-6; Nate Smith upending C.J. (Colorado Springs, CO) 7-6; Nick Smith outpacing Kyle Engelsman (Lakewood, CO) 7-4; and Field knocking off Chris Onesky (Arvada, CO) 7-3.
In the B-side “final 8” Chris Onesky forfeited to Sam Cordova (Pueblo, CO), and Chisolm Woodson (Aurora, CO) eliminated Mike Barry 7-3 – both losers placing 7-8th. In the quarterfinals, Cordova and Woodson continued their winning ways by ousting Nate Smith 7-2 and Nick Smith 7-6 respectively. The semifinals saw Woodson knock out Cordova 7-2, but the B-side finals ended Woodson’s run – at the hands of Dave Gomez – by a 7-3 margin. The tourney finals featured Dave Gomez versus Rick Field, with Gomez having to win two sets to claim the title. Dave Gomez proved to be up to the task, as he comfortably won both sets 7-4, 7-4! Nicole Hellmer (FT. Collins, CO) was the top-placing woman shooter and was rewarded with a $30 prize.
By virtue of Rick Field being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, he qualified for a free singles entry into the 2008 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS. The ACS wishes to thank sponsors J. Pechauer Custom Cues, Championship Billiard Fabric and Nick Varner Signature Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the Pechauer All American Tour. The Tour is red hot on the weekend of January 18-20, as three big events will be showcased: 1). the 4th Annual Winter Shootout – a $3,500 added 8-ball event (men’s women’s divisions) at Lassiter’s in Clinton, IA (contact Alan Birkett at 563-243-4361); 2). the Nebraska State Invitational – a $1400 added 8-ball/9-ball/Scotch Doubles event (men’s women’s divisions) at Fort Crook Billiards in Bellevue [Omaha], NE (contact Claire Banks at 402-291-7665); and 3). a $500 added 8-ball event at Starship Billiards in Decatur, IL (contact Tom Fankhauser at 217-433-8868).
