The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour made its way to Burrkat’s Billiards in Monroe, NC, which hosted both an open and amateur event, with notable players such as Sparky Ferrell, Kelly Fisher, Val Finnie, and Jeff Abernathy, just to name a few. Held December 1-2, this Viking event brought in a total of 76 players.

The open division kicked off Saturday with 44 players, and the match-ups were intense, featuring matches between Abernathy and Fisher and Mike Gulyassy versus Ferrell. After drawing a first-round bye, Ferrell made his way through the bottom half of the bracket undefeated, sending player after player to the one-loss side. He went through Jeff Pruitt 9-3, Mike Fuller 9-5, Mark Horne 9-5, Gulyassy 9-6, and Kelly Fisher 9-5 to attain the hot seat. After Fisher bested Abernathy 9-1 in the semifinal match, Fisher faced Ferrell in the finals but was unable to make a comeback as Ferrell defeated her 9-7 to win the open division.

The amateur division drew in 32 players, which included some crowd favorites such as Matt Reed, Dennis Killough, and Ed Killough. Reed made his trek to the finals through the top half of the bracket undefeated, starting with Derek Stirewalt 7-1, Dusty Norris 7-4, Mark Horne 7-4, Dennis Killough 7-3, and Daniel Gambill 7-2 to face Ed Killough in a fight to the death match that kept everyone on the edge of their seats as Killough gave Reed a run for the money. After trading racks, Reed finally gained the lead 6-5 and took the final game to win the set 7-5.
