The field at the Turning Stone Classic XIII is in the homestretch, having narrowed to its final eight players. This prestigious, $25,000-added event is being hosted by Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY, and the winner is crowned tomorrow, walking away with the $8,000 first-place prize.
In the top tier of the winners’ bracket Sunday, Oscar Dominguez (pictured below) and Shane Van Boening will face off in what should prove to be a stellar match. Dominguez had an easy match against Tim Parisian, winning 9-2, and then sending Corey “The Prince of Pool” Deuel to the west side with a tight 9-7 victory. His opponent Sunday, Van Boening, bested first Marc “Spain” Vidal 9-2 and then David Grau 9-5 to meet Dominguez.
In the other winners’ bracket match, it will be Robb Saez versus Zion Zvi. Saez was responsible for sending the last female standing, Karen Corr, to the left side of the chart 9-5, while Zvi survived a close 9-7 match against Mhet Vergara.
Four remain on the one-loss side as well. Deuel made it through a hill-hill thriller against Joey “JK” Korsiak to face off against Dave Grau Sunday. Grau was forced to play Mike “Iron Man” Davis in the previous round and won 9-4. Previously, though, Davis was responsible for the elimination of both the feared Dennis “The Hatchetman” Hatch 9-7 and Yu Ram Cha 9-5.
Oscar Bonilla has done his own share of damage on the west side, ousting Dan Heidrich 9-6, Shawn “Big Bubba” Putnam 9-7, and finally Corr 9-5 to reach the final four on the one-loss side. His opponent will be Gabe Owen, who defeated Johnny Archer 9-7, Vidal 9-6, and finally Vergara 9-3.
