Cruz Takes McDermott All American Tour at Rudy’s Place
The twelfth stop of the 2007/2008 McDermott All American Tour (produced by the American CueSports Alliance – ACS) was hosted at Rudy’s Place in Aurora, IL, on Saturday, November 10. The $500 added event drew a full field of thirty-two women players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes.
Linda Cruz (Chicago, IL) took an undefeated route to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Cruz clipped Amy Latzko (Orland Park, IL) 5-3. Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Cruz dispatched Cindy Snidlebush (Sterling, IL) 5-2, while Latzko eclipsed Kathy Koon (Chicago, IL) 5-3. In the B-side bracket Kassy Werner (Glendale Heights, IL) eliminated Tammi Cox (Peoria, IL) at 7th place by a 4-1 margin, while Kim Tarter (Decatur, IL) ousted Kay Reimer (Joliet, IL) 4-3 at the same placement. In the B-side quarterfinals Werner and Tarter continued on by dispatching into 5th place respectively Kathy Koon 4-2 and Cindy Snidlebush 4-1. In the loser’s semifinals Tarter whitewashed Werner 4-0, but Kim was no match for Amy Latzko, as Latzko ended Kim Tarters run at 3rd place by a 4-1 margin. The tourney finals almost went to a second set, but Linda Cruz kept her undefeated march to the title alive in route to a 5-4 defeat of Amy Latzko!
By virtue of Kim Tarter being the highest-finishing ACS member in the event, she qualified for a free 9-ball singles entry into the 2008 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS. The ACS wishes to thank sponsors McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Championship Billiard Fabric and Nick Varner Signature Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the McDermott All American Tour. The Tour continues on the weekend of November 17-18, when one event will be showcased – a $800 added 8-ball event at the Hinsdale VFW in Hinsdale, NH (contact Jimmy Brooks at 802-254-5514).
