Billiard News – Father’s Day weekend saw 25 women come out to the Viking Cue Ladies’ 9-Ball Tour at Mr. Cues 2 in Atlanta, GA, with 24-year-old Katie Cowan of Charlotte, NC, taking top honors. Not only did Cowan go home with first place, she also scored the WPBA qualifier for their event in Norman, OK.
Mr. Cues was an excellent host for the event, featuring 40 tables, a full bar, and a kitchen. They sectioned off eight tables for the players and had raised seating for spectators.
The event was a race to 7, alternating breaks and true double elimination. Lisa D’Atri started off her event with wins over Amy Chen, Leslee Davis-Blackie, Buffy Jolie, and then over Cowan 7-5. But she stumbled in the hot seat match against Dawn Fox, who bested her 7-3 and sent her to the one-loss side to face Cowan again.
Not one to forgive easily, Cowan exacted revenge upon D’Atri, eliminating her 7-5 to go on to meet Fox in the finals. Earlier, Fox had defeated Autumn Duncan, Cheryl Couch, and Susan Mello. In the finals, it was all Cowan, who handed Fox two consecutive losses, 7-5 and 7-3, to win the event.
