Bustamante Cruises into Last 64

Bustamante Cruises into Last 64
Francisco Bustamante has cruised into the last 64 of the 2007 Philippines World Pool Championship. Bustamante, known as Django, was the runner-up in 2002 and is into the knock-out stages of this year’s event after victories against South African Zbynek Vaic and Jeong Young-hwa of Korea.
The performance against unknown Vaic was not the best from Filipino Bustamante but he then turned on the style to crush Jeong 9-0. It was an impressive victory, especially after Jeong had defeated Bustamante’s countryman Antonio Lining.
Leevan Corteza, also of the Philippines, had been tipped by many as an outside tip to win the tournament but suffered a disastrous start as a 7-9 shock defeat to Serbia’s Goran Mladenovic left Corteza’s competition hopes in danger.
Elsewhere, Chang Jung-lin (Chinese Taipei), Ramil Gallego (Philippines) and Dang Jinhu all won their opening matches in Group 7, Alex Pagulayan (Philippines) and David Alcaide (Spain) both recorded emphatic 9-0 triumphs in Group 8, while Mika Immonen (Finland) and Jeremy Jones (USA) were early winners in Group 12.
