Geoffrey Bauer fought back from a hot seat defeat at the hands of Mike Wong to best him in the finals and take first place on the Tri-State Tour stop September 13. A total of 30 entrants were on hand for the $500-added, A-D handicapped event, hosted by Master Billiards in Queens, NY.

Earlier Saturday, among the winners’ side final four Bauer and Wong worked their way through identical double-hill matches against Raphael DaBreo and Mark “The Gypsy” Pantovick, respectively. Wong had an easier time in the hot seat match, sending Bauer west 7-3.

DaBreo and Pantovick, moving to the one-loss side, were met by Anthony Pizaro and Danny Cintron. Pizaro had dropped Beau Baer into a tie for seventh, and Cintron sent Scott Simonetti to join him. Pantovick won a double-hill battle over Cintron, as Pizaro finished DaBreo’s tournament bid 7-3. The quarterfinal match between Pisaro and Pantovick was the last in a series of seven double-hill matches that developed among the tournament’s final 12 players; half of the 14 matches played. It was Pizaro on the winning end of the quarterfinals who faced a determined Geoffrey Bauer in the semifinal match.

Bauer lost little time dispatching Pizaro 7-2 into third place and turned for his rematch versus Wong. With a handicap format in place, Bauer started the finals ahead by two games, to which he added two more, allowing Wong only a single rack.  At 4-1, the two traded racks to a 7-3 lead for Bauer, which automatically extended the match to nine games. Wong battled back to win the next three and pull within one, but it was too little, too late as Bauer closed it out, winning the next two.
