Asia-Pacific Pool Tour Announced
Raya Sports of the Philippines has announced the 2008 Asia-Pacific Pool Tour. This WPA-sanctioned series will be exclusively played as 10-ball events and will begin with the Philippine 10-Ball Open, to be held at the Araneta Coliseum in Manila January 21-27, 2008. The season will lead up to the WPA World 10-Ball Championship in October of 2008, also in Manila. Of course, performance in the APT legs will be one way of qualifying for the World Championship.
While the tour stop locations are still under review, there are events that are certain to be held in the following locations. The Indonesian 10-Ball Open will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Taiwan 10-Ball Open is to be contested in Taipei, and the Vietnam 10-Ball Open will be hosted in Ho Chi Minh City.
Other locations currently being studied include Melbourne, Australia, and Guandong, China. Two locations are also being explored in the United States, both in California: Carson City and San Francisco. All of these details will soon be ironed out and published quickly in order to keep all players and fans informed.
All tour stops on the Asian-Pacific Tour will be Open events that will welcome players from every part of the globe. The entry fee for each leg is $300 USD, and the tour will work with local hotels and strive to get the players and fans attractive rates at hotels near the venues.
Each event on the tour will pay cash awards to any player who finishes 32nd or better with the top prize offering a minimum of $20,000 USD. The organizers are working with sponsors to provide the greatest total prize purse possible.
