Turning Stone XIII / Verona, NY

by InsidePOOL Staff

Karen Corr, who vanquished constant Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour winner Dennis “The Hatchetman” Hatch Friday night 9-5, continues her winning streak at the Turning Stone XIII, defeating Steve Lillis 9-3 and then sending one of the West Coast’s strongest players, Ernesto Dominguez, to the west side with a 9-4 victory. Corr is one of the eight players remaining in the event without a loss and will next play Robb Saez. The Turning Stone Classic XIII is a four-day event presented by the Joss Tour and hosted by the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY.

While Hatch is still alive on the one-loss side and could easily make an appearance in the finals, given his track record on the tour, others have fallen. Former world 9-ball champion Thorsten Hohmann suffered his first loss to Jeremy Sossei 9-1 and then was eliminated by Yu Ram Cha 9-6. Also, Atlanta’s Steve Moore is out, after suffering losses to Charlie Bryant on the winners’ side 9-5 and then Bob Blackmore on the left side 9-7.

Some surprises are joining the west side of the chart after the last round in the winners’ side. Johnny Archer, a former champ at this event, suffered a 9-6 loss to Dave Grau, and Mhet Vergara sent Charlie Bryant packing after winning their hill-hill bout. Another surprise was the outcome of the hill-hill match that sent Mike Davis to the one-loss side when Zion Zvi won 9-8. Oscar Dominguez delivered Shawn Putnam left 9-6, while Corey Deuel bested Dan Heidrich 9-4.
