The Turning Stone Classic XIII has rolled back into Verona, NY, with a full 128-player field vying for their share of the $25,000-added prize purse. Hosted by the Turning Stone Resort and Casino, this event is put on by the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour.
Though most of the European players were not able to make the tournament because of the concurrent Euro Tour event, including defending champion Ralf Souquet, there are still many strong candidates ready to snap off the prestigious title. Corey “The Prince of Pool” Deuel has won his first two matches over Bob Lewis and Chance Chin, both 9-6, and is poised at the top of the bracket and looking good.
Runner-up at the February event, Dennis Hatch is ready to make his bid for the title, winning his first match against Bill McCollim 9-5. Also, Johnny Archer, a past winner of this event, has won his first two matches and only gave up two racks on his way, defeating Mike Andrews 9-2 and Tim Perry 9-0. Oscar Dominguez did as well, besting first Dave Wetmore 9-0 and then Chris Taormina 9-2. Shane Van Boening has crushed his first two opponents, sending Randy Labonte and Brandon Shuff to the left side of the chart 9-2 and 9-3, respectively.

Several talented ladies showed up to test their mettle against the male-dominated field. Longtime Joss Tour participant Karen Corr is present and dealt her first opponent, Duane Toney, a donut to advance to play another frequent Joss Tour player, Hatch.
Julie Kelly is still undefeated after the first two rounds, besting Damian Provost in the first 9-6 and Dave Mills 9-1 in the second. Yu Ram Cha suffered a first-round loss to Scott Tollefson 9-5 but is still alive on the one-loss side, having defeated Jason Reese 9-0. Liz Taylor, Jennifer Barretta, and Fran Crimi all won their first-round matches, but Liz Ford went up against Joey Kong and ended up heading to the west side of the chart after their hill-hill match.
