Moore Bests Hall in Seminole Final
Seminole Pro Tour / Holiday, FL
by Skip Maloney
Steve Moore defeated Justin Hall twice to go undefeated, capturing first place at the Seminole Pro Tour stop the weekend of April 24-26. The $6,000-added event drew 43 entrants to Hammerheads in Holiday, FL.
From among the winners’ side final four, Moore recorded his second shut-out of the tournament, sending Mike Davis west as Hall got by Louis Altes 8-6. In their first meeting, Moore gained the hot seat with an 8-5 win over Hall and waited for his return.
Over on the one-loss side, Donnie Mills and Jerry Calderon were waiting for Davis and Altes. Mills had gotten by Tony Crosby and dropped Yu Ram Cha 8-5 into the tie for seventh place, as Calderon defeated Adam Wheeler and then dropped Han Berber 8-1 into the seventh place tie with Cha. Mills and Calderon advanced a step further into the quarterfinals with Mills besting Altes 8-4 and Calderon over Davis 8-5.
Calderon advanced to the semifinals with an 8-6 win over Mills and then dropped into third place when Hall defeated him by the same score for a second crack at Moore. In spite of the extended wait for the finals to begin, Moore jumped out to an early 4-0 lead that he never relinquished. Hall managed to close the four-rack gap with some consecutive racks in the middle of the match and got as close as two at 7-5. Moore put an end to it right there and closed out his undefeated weekend.
