Volkman Earns 8-Ball Victory

The weekend of April 25-26 saw 78 players make the trip to Oshkosh, WI, for their $1,000-added 8-ball event. Players traveled from across Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana to attend, and it was Tim Volkman who walked away with the first-place prize.
On Saturday the field was narrowed down to 16 players who would come back to play on Sunday. Volkman faced off against Chad Elston for the hot seat. Both players played well, but it was Volkman who prevailed 4-2, sending Elston to the one-loss bracket. On the west side Matt Mitchell won six matches in a row to get a chance at playing Elston in the semifinals. In the end Mitchell came out on top, getting a chance to play Volkman in the finals.
Mitchell kept his hot streak going by defeating Volkman 4-2 in the first set of the true double-elimination finals. But Volkman was able to get revenge in the second set, which he won 4-1.
