Billiard Education Foundation Awards 2007 Scholarships
The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) is pleased to announce the scholarship awards for 2007 BEF Academic Scholarship Program. Eight college-bound students have been selected to receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 from the BEF through this program.
The scholarships are awarded to applicants that have met the criteria set by the BEF, with the final recipients being voted upon by the BEF Board of Trustees. The primary objective of the BEF Academic Scholarship Program is to grant scholarships to high school seniors who have benefited from the sport of billiards and are pursuing a college education.
The BEF Academic Scholarship Program is an annual program that is divided into two categories: the BEF Excellence in Education Scholarship, which is a $5,000 scholarship awarded over a two-year term, and the BCA Scholarships, which awards seven students $1,000 awarded annually.
BEF President Tom Riccobene commented, The BEF and BCA would like to wish all the applicants the very best in their future endeavors. Choosing the winners was extremely tough because the quality of all of the applications was so high. It’s the support of the entire billiard community that makes this and other BEF programs possible, and I’d like to thank all of the companies and individuals for their continued support of the BEF.
The winners were among the 110 applications who met the scholarship criteria set by the BEF. The criteria includes maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale); an ACT score of 23 or higher, or an SAT score of 1050 or higher; must be accepted to an accredited undergraduate academic program by June 1, 2007, and carry at least 12 hours per semester; submit a 500-1,000 word essay on how billiards has been an integral part of his/her life; a letter outlining academic achievements, leadership and/or community service work; and a description of the applicant’s background and career objectives.
