Wong and Savci Go Undefeated

The Tri-State Tour visited Master Billiards in Queens, NY, June 2, where Mike Wong bested the A/B handicapped division, while Suleyman Savci captured the C/D division. Both events were run simultaneously, as the tour offered this double-points event to help qualify more players for the upcoming invitational.
In the A/B division the 16-player field quickly wound down to the hot seat match, where Wong faced Jorge Rodriguez and bested him 7-3 in no time. On the one-loss side Pablo Sanz ousted Noel Bensurto 7-4 in the quarterfinals but then fell to Rodriguez in the semifinals, who eliminated him 7-2 to earn a rematch in the finals. With the last match in progress Wong didn’t give up much ground and took the match 7-4 to claim the double-points win.
In the C/D division a 22-player field emerged to watch Savci and Clayton Van Nortwick meet in the hot seat match and Savci come out on top of the 6-3 score. Over on the one-loss Jim Ireland was working on a comeback by knocking out Gail Glazebrook double-hill in the quarterfinals then dominating Van Nortwick 7-3 in the semifinals. With Ireland back in the finals, facing Savci for the second time, the match got off to an even start, although in no time Savci shot out to a lead and didn’t look back taking the match 7-3 to earn the top finish.
