2009 Mezz Classic

The Second Annual Mezz Classic rolled into Orlando, FL, the first week of August to see who are the best in this pool-player satiated area. The event is sponsored by Mezz Cues and Ozone Billiards and is hosted by Corner Pocket Billiards.
The Mezz Classic Straight Pool Invitational, which began August 6 and concludes the following day, saw 23 players show up for the race-to-125 event. Defending champion Thorsten Hohmann enjoyed a first-round bye and then sent Tommy Najar to the one-loss side of the chart in the second round 125-42. His next opponent will be Yu Ram Cha (pictured), who also had a first-round bye and then sent Florida’s Neil Fujiwara west with a 125-91 victory.
Charlie Williams, event promoter, also had a first-round bye and then sent his second-round opponent, Mike Hutcheson, packing 125-82. Williams will next face “Rocket” Rodney Morris, who earlier defeated 2007 Player of the Year Shane Van Boening 125-70.
Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer bested Bill Dunsmore 125-26 and now will play Marco Tschudi, who sent Dan Dennis to the left side of the chart in the second round 125-82. Steve Moore of Atlanta is also undefeated, having defeated Todd Anderson 125-44 in the second round. His next opponent will be 2008 Player of the Year Mika Immonen, who won his second-round match against Dan Heidrich 125-93.
