Williams Snares Alarming Billiard Victory

The Tiger Canadian Women’s Pool Tour held its fourth stop of the tour recently at Shooters Billiards in North York, Ontario, Canada. Owner, John White, once again supported the ladies tour by holding the second WPBA qualifying spot for the Pacific Coast Classic coming up in October. On July 18, 2009, twenty three ladies arrived Saturday morning to Challenge the Champions sponsor by Don Bros and Tiger Products.
Round One match were shortly underway when, out of the blue, the fire alarm bells went off! “Ding Ding Ding….and their off,” said Denise Belanger. Luckily the alarm stop and the players continue to their game.

On the A-side bracket, Naomi Williams, the 2008 Canadian 9 Ball Champion would go undefeated with wins over Suzy Dickstein, Susan Wipper, Darlene Gardiner, and Veronique Menard. Williams would then return Sunday.

On Sunday, the fans saw the returned of six open ranked players battling it out for the coveted spot they are Naomi Williams, Bonnie Plowman, Brittany Bryant, Grace Nakamura, Denise Belanger and Veronique Menard. With the six players that returned on Sunday, only three of the ladies were eligible for the WPBA spot.

On the A-side semi final bracket, it was Williams vs. Plowman. Plowman, who made her appearance in Toronto, decided to try her skills against Ontario’s best. Unfortunately, Plowman would lose to Williams 7-1, sending Plowman to the one loss side and have Williams wait for the outcome of the remaining matches.

The B-Side bracket was filled with talented ladies and matches to be watched. Grace Nakamura would win over Belanger 7-4, and Bryant ousted Menard in a hill hill match after Menard’s heart wrenching miss on the 6 ball. Bryant would then face off against Nakamura. In this match, Bryant was on fire defeated Nakamura 7-5. With this outcome, the WPBA spot automatically landed to Williams as she was the last remaining player eligible for the WPBA spot. However, with that decided and still two matches left, Bryant would face off against Plowman. Bryant played outstanding as she win in a dominating fashion posting a score 7-1. Plowman settled for 3rd place, and Bryant is off to the main event!

“Ding Ding Ding, the final championship round has been called” said Denise Belanger,
In this true double elimination match, Bryant would need to defeat Williams twice. Bryant defeated Williams in the first set 7-5, and in the next set, Bryant took a commanding 5-1 lead. However, Williams would not give up and fought for every shot, making combination after combination on the 9 ball and knotting the score up 6-6. With Bryant on the run-out, she would miss with a slight cut of the 8 ball into the side pocket and leaving Naomi to finish. With a score of 7-6, Williams wins the Don Broos Custom Cue Pacific Coast Qualifier.
